The first annual JamIT has come to an end, and what a jam it has been! PlayIT did an amazing job arranging this event, and I think we all wouldn’t mind if it was done again sometime in the future. But let’s put the first things first, shall we? I started writing this post last night after the presentation, but in my coffee/zombie state it was hard to put something sensible into words, and the final result ended up with something along the lines of “JamIT was awesome. I made a game. Play it.”. But now, after a good nights rest, I feel up to the task!
The jam itself started on Friday with keynotes from the Copenhagen Game Collective, presenting different strategies for doing well in a jam. (Among others: How to win by competing, how to win by not really competing, and how to win by keeping your opponents busy playing your game) After my NGJ experience I would personally recommend that latter one.
19 games was submitted during the 48 hours from Friday to Sunday, varying from high paced racing and musical fun to slightly more serious games and the “explicitly mature” ones. Basically games for everyone to enjoy. The theme for the jam was “Not Possible”, presented along with this piece of art.

Even though the jam was laid out to encourage group work, I decided to walk it alone this time. This was based on a last-minute email I got from a company I applied for a job at asking me for a show reel. It left me sitting with a “I’ve done a lot of things, but I don’t really have anything to show”-feeling, and I decided to hit three birds with one stone. (Not that I would encourage trowing stones at birds. It’s just a figure of speach. Please don’t throw stones at the birds…) Participate in the jam, make a game I could be proud to show of, and work on an idea that I’ve played with in my mind for the last year or so. The result? A slightly creepy, self aware platform game that wants to be played. It will do everything in it’s power to keep you from finishing it, because it realizes that it only exists while you are playing, and it doesn’t want to die. Now, I only have three “introduction” levels in the game right now, but I have ideas for more. And I’ll let you know if and when I get around to working on it some more. Oh, and I almost forgot! You can play it here! Be aware that it can take some time to load, and please play with sound. The awesome soundtrack was made by Simon Cutajar.
I’m not going to add a description of each game since I’ve added all the screenshots underneath. And you should be able to get the gist of the game from them. Actually, looking at the picture of Bert Baker’s Cunnilingus I’m having second thoughts… Maybe I should add a description anyway…
Oh, and before I forget! All games can be found and played/downloaded/viewed at the JamIT website. Just go to “Submissions”.
